"Legends of Puerto Rico, Inc. offers longer and more inventive tours, developed by Debbie Molina-Ramos, a great storyteller who is as passionate about her subject matter as she is professional."

Customers TOUR Review & Survey 2009

REVIEW POSTED ON TripAdvisor on January 2, 2010

We had a fantastic time with our guide, Carlos, on a private tour of El Yunque Rainforest and Luquillo beach. We were met at the pier of our cruise ship and we stopped at a Deli where Debbie kindly helped us food for a picnic lunch in the rainforest. While we drove we were given interesting information about Puerto Rico. Carlos took good care of us, showing us many interesting things before we even left the parking lot of the visitor's center! I learned more in 10 minutes with him than I had learned the entire tour when I went last time through the cruise ship. He had fascinating facts about the plants and their uses, he really knew his subject. Then we stopped at Luquillo beach to cool down and he helped us order snacks from a kiosk there. Finally he took us back to our hotel in old San Juan. The service we received from both Debbie and Carlos was top notch, Debbie even enquired into other things we were interested in during our stay like a baseball game and emailed us the next day to make sure we had enjoyed our tour and were enjoying our stay in San Juan.  Linda Lee and family Private tour of rainforest with Luquillo Beach - Dec 26, 2009, Cruise ship passengers. http://www.legendsofpr.com/Honda_Odyssey.htm

REVIEW POSTED ON CRUISE CRITIC SAN JUAN BOARD ON MAY 4, 2009

Hello! I was in San Juan on the Carnival Liberty on April 20th. I found the tour "San Juan Nights" (they're now calling it "Spirits of San Juan") on this message board and thought I'd post a little review! Basically, it's a kinda fancy rum tasting tour.

http://www.***********.com/San_Juan_Night.htm

We made the reservation through their on-line booking website. I believe it was about $70pp. I received an e-mail the week before the cruise with the details on where to go for the tour. We had to go to a restaurant called Baru which was a short walk from the ship through a nice part of town. The restaurant was small and very nice with a little bar up front. Our tour guide, Debbie was very personable and made us feel very comfortable. She had the table all set up with 4 different glasses of rum and we were instructed on how to taste the rum and learn the differences between them. It took quite a while to learn how to properly smell and taste the rums. After the first four were gone, she brought out the first round of food and a rum cocktail. The food was plantains with some sort of a mashed plantain/rum mixture that was awesome. Next came the second 4 glasses of rum then more food (chicken kabobs in a rum/curry sauce) and a rum cocktail. I was feeling pretty good at this point! The final round of 4 rum glasses, food (a pastry with beef or chicken in each) and a DIY mojito and we were done! Whew! I learned quite a bit about the different San Juan rums and since Debbie is a native, her passion for San Juan and it's rums really shined through. We weren't hammered after the tour or anything but I was definitely feeling a good buzz. The tour ended with plenty of time to walk around OSJ and do some shopping before heading to the ship.

TIP: If you're buying alcohol, buy it at the duty free shop at the pier. It was way cheaper there.

I would definitely recommend this tour!

Tour review from the April 7, 2009 Group - San Juan Nights Tour (Spirits of Puerto Rico)

Dianne and Bill Lane, MI Celebrity's Solstice:  "Loved this tour. Great food and and though we had not met any of the others we all had fun together. Debbie does a great job!"

Annie & Tom Lumbar, MN Hotel Guest
: "I wish we could have gone longer...we were enjoying the company and conversation!"

Joanne Ackland, WI Hotel Guest: " We enjoyed the rum tasting - it was very entertaining and enjoyable. Debbie was a little tough on us because after a few rum tastings, we were a little more lively but it was all in good fun. The food was fantastic and there was plenty to go around and my favorite part were the rum cocktails - specifically the mojito. It would have been nice to have dessert however, we did get a rum dessert shot!"

Night Tales in Old San Juan - www.legendsofpr.comTour survey comments:  Really, Debbie did an excellent job. It was apparent that she had been doing this for awhile but had not seemed to lose her enthusiasm for doing it. It was a very good tour and we all enjoyed it.  Patrick Dahlmeir, Puerto Rico, March 28, 2009 Night Tales in Old San Juan tour

Tour survey comments: The Legends of San Juan tour was GREAT! Debbie did a terrific job of helping us learn about the history of Old San Juan, while at the same time keeping us entertained with her sense of humor and quick wit. The several family photos she had us pose for were the best pictures of our entire trip. From the start of the tour, which began with a brief visit to the Don Q Rum Museum for a little "tasting", to the end of the tour, when recommendations were made for local shopping and dining, the tour was first rate, thanks to Debbie's knowledge and enthusiasm. My advice, especially to anyone arriving on a cruise ship as we did, is to FORGET the cruise line excursions, and reserve the Legends of San Juan tour instead. I promise you that you will be glad you made this choice.  G. Bagnall, VA March 23, 2009 Royal Caribbean Independence of the Seas Legends of San Juan tour

Tour survey comments: We were on a three day Puerto Rican, and eleven day cruise vacation. We can say with no reservation that the time we spent with Debbie was absolutely FANTASTIC. The tour of old San Juan tour was informative, humorous, and memorable. The Rum tasting was something we had never done before and we totally enjoyed the evening. Baru was a great restaurant choice, the food was terrific! We have already recommended "Legends" to people we met on the cruise and we hope some day to return and visit other parts of the island with Debbie. Again, thanks, Debbie for helping to make our vacation one we will always remember. Hi Debbie,

We wanted you to know that you were very helpful in the history of San Juan. We enjoyed ourselves very much and you taking your time to explain the area to us. When we ever go back to San Juan we will look you up so you could bring us around again in a different area.

Thank you again for everything. Take care......Sincerely, Dianne

Night Tales in Old San Juan - www.legendsofpr.comTour survey comments: Debbie was fantastic, after the tour she recommended a place for dinner (Baru). This ended up being our favorite meal of out entire trip. She personally walked us there and made sure we where taken care of before going on her way, this was completely above and beyond and much appreciated. Tour survey comments:  Our group especially liked the Streetscapes tour of contemporary San Juan, seeing the museums and the art. The choice of Jam for lunch was inspired! Debbie's familiarity with the parts of the city, its history and the special corners that could be so easily missed or by-passed made our private tour all we hoped it would be. Her good humor and knowledge of Old San Juan made navigating our walking through the city during San Sebastian a treat. She is a gifted guide, and we enjoyed her energy and careful attention to our interests. A wonderful day was had by all four of us. Tour survey: Debbie was an great guide for our evening of learning about Puerto Rican rum and its history. She made the group feel comfortable and had a lively style. It was a lovely ending to our day of immersion in Old and New San Juan.  Kathleen Cunningham, Hotel guest, NJ January 17, 2009  San Juan Nights Tour

Tour survey: The San Juan Nights tour was a highlight of our stay in PR.  Great company, great rum and great food.  Initially I was a little disappointed that the tour was at Palio instead of a local restaurant, but the location did not ruin the quality of the night.  I will happily recommend this tour to anyone travelling to Old San Juan. Thank you. Aaron Mayers, Hotel guest, NY January 17, 2009  San Juan Nights Tour

Night Tales in Old San Juan - www.legendsofpr.comTour survey comments:  We really enjoyed the walking tour. The San Sebastien festival forced the route to change a little, but this did not ruin the quality of the tour.  Debbie even gave us some great information about the local foods and festival snacks and frituras. Night Tales in Old San Juan - www.legendsofpr.comTour survey comments:  Debbie was absolutely wonderful! We loved seeing the city at night and the history Debbie provided was great, especially for buffs like the 4 of us. Myself included since I am a photography and scrapbooking person, she gave me so much to take back home with tid-bits and pictures. One member of our group was a little hindered in health and she was very appreciative of the pace and consideration that Debbie took for her. It was a wonderful tour with a wonderful guide. Night Tales in Old San Juan - www.legendsofpr.comTour survey comments:  Better than the walking tours booked through Royal Caribbean. Since the walking is fast-paced and up and down a few hills, it may not be right for some people. My husband, son and I all considered this tour a highlight of our trip. Celebrating Kenny's birthday with the San Juan Nights rum tasting & dinner tour

“The rum tasting was a truly enjoyable and informative tour.  Debbie was very accommodating to all of us. The only improvement could have been that a little more food be served with so many rums being tasted. The food was fabulous. Would go back to the restaurant just for dinner. Please inform Debbie that Kenny not only liked the cake, but the whole experience. Thank you so much for a memorable evening.”  Sandy Lenoir, Hotel guest, Tennessee, NOV 24. 2008  San Juan Nights Tour
